Office pod comparison: how PrivacyPod stacks up.

Pillar Booth is a Chicago-based, US-manufactured competitor that sells the Pillar One (1-person) at $6,695 and the Pillar Two (2-person) at $15,995, both quote-only on their public site. Their product line is limited to phone booths, with no 4-person or 6-person meeting pod option.

For buyers needing only a 1-person booth and prioritizing US manufacturing, Pillar is a reasonable choice in the same price range as ROOM's Phone Booth. For buyers needing 4-person meeting pods, 6-person conference pods, or a single-vendor procurement across multiple sizes, PrivacyPod's lineup covers the full range. Pillar does not currently publish ISO 23351-1 acoustic certification data.

ISO 23351-1 is the international standard specifically developed to measure speech privacy in office pods and small enclosures. It tests the entire pod as a system (walls, glass, ventilation, door seal) under reproducible conditions and reports a single number, the speech-level reduction in decibels.

NIC (Noise Isolation Class) is a general-purpose acoustic metric originally developed for walls and partitions in buildings. It measures broadband sound transmission across a frequency range and is not pod-specific.

Both metrics report a dB number, and 30 dB in either system represents meaningful privacy. But they are not directly interchangeable. ISO 23351-1 is the more rigorous test for office pods because it captures the full enclosure under speech-relevant conditions. PrivacyPod, Framery, and PoppinPod publish ISO 23351-1 results. ROOM and Zenbooth publish NIC.

Two reasons. First, PrivacyPod is a direct-to-buyer brand without dealer markups in the standard price. Framery and ROOM both sell heavily through dealer networks, which layers dealer margin into the price a buyer actually sees. Second, PrivacyPod does not bundle enterprise smart-pod features (touchscreens, 4G modules, occupancy analytics platforms, embedded sound-masking systems) that add hardware and software cost to Framery's product line.

The underlying pod, the acoustic certification, the glass spec, and the certifications (UL 962, GREENGUARD, ASTM E84) are the same class. The difference is what is bundled around it.
